Background: Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI of the breast has been shown to have a high sensitivity and relatively low specificity in the diagnosis of breast cancer. Overall data have shown a relative benefit of screening MRI for those with certain risk factors such as a BRCA mutation. The American Cancer Society currently holds the position that there is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against screening MRI for women with a personal history of breast cancer.
