International FDG PET, CT Guidelines for Breast Cancer Patients


Background: Although many articles have been written about performing fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) PET/CT to evaluate patients with breast cancer, no consensus guidelines have been published that provide guidance for this imaging approach. Objective: To determine international guidelines to follow when using FDG PET/CT to evaluate patients with breast cancer. Design: Literature review and expert discussion. Methods: Members of both the EANM (European Association of Nuclear Medicine) and the SNMMI (Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging) formulated these guidelines for using FDG PET/CT to evaluate patients with breast cancer. Their guideline decisions were based on literature review and expert discussion.
