Classic Article Review – Background: The oral cavity hosts a complex microbiota distinct from other body ecosystems. It includes both obligate and facultative anaerobes, which can cause infections leading to septicemia. Pathogens include Actinomyces , Bacteroides , Eubacterium , Fusobacterium , Lactobacillus , Peptostreptococcus , Peptococcus , Propionibacterium , and Veillonella . Identifying these microorganisms helps guide effective antibiotic treatment, especially as resistance to both old and new antibiotics increases. Objective: To emphasize the detection of pathogenic microorganisms, which include facultative anaerobes and obligate anaerobes, by microbiological examination and culture of specimens.
