SOTRs Living With HIV Have Increased Risk for Skin Cancer

Background: A growing number of people living with HIV (PLWH) are receiving solid organ transplants. Although it is well established that solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) are at an increased risk of developing skin cancer and should be screened frequently, similar guidelines do not exist for PLWH. Objective: To determine the risk of skin cancer in SOTRs with HIV. Design/Methods: Retrospective analysis of SOTRs from the organ procurement and transplantation network database (2000 to 2022) comparing rates and types of skin cancer between HIV-negative and HIV-positive transplant recipients. Results: HIV-negative patients were predominantly non-Hispanic white. Among all recipients, 0.7% were HIV positive, with 61.0% of them being black.
