AI Can Detect Spine Fractures
Background: Vertebral compression fractures have been reported to be underdiagnosed on chest x-rays; however, identifying their presence can aid in the detection of significant osteoporosis. Multiple artificial intelligence (AI) programs that can detect vertebral fractures have received FDA(k) 510 clearance. Objective: To assess the ability of the AI program, Annalise Enterprise CXR Triage Trauma device, to effectively detect vertebral fractures. Methods: With institutional review board approval, consecutive patient radiology chest x-ray reports between November 1, 2015, and October 31, 2021, were reviewed. These x-rays were acquired on both inpatients and outpatients, with no limitations based on the clinical indication for the examination.
