PACD Is Common Among Chinese Americans
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of primary angle closure disease (PACD) among Chinese American adults and to identify risk factors for its development. Design: Population-based cross-sectional study. Participants/Methods: The authors defined a population of adults aged ≥50 years in a suburb of Los Angeles who self-identified as Chinese American. All subjects underwent a comprehensive ophthalmic examination that included gonioscopy, ocular biometry, fundus photography, and visual field testing. Based on slit lamp examination and gonioscopy, subjects were classified as primary angle closure suspects (PACSs) if the trabecular meshwork was not visible in ≥270° without intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation or peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS).
