PRF Reduces Early Postop Pain After 3M Surgery

Background: In oral and maxillofacial surgery, surgically removing mandibular third molars (3Ms) is routine; however, it can be followed by complications in the postoperative period, such as pain, swelling, trismus, alveolar osteitis (AO), and postoperative infection (PI), which can compromise wound healing. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) can enhance healing in dental surgical procedures through promoting cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation, as well as accelerating the physiological healing of tissue defects. Objective: To evaluate incident AO and PI following PRF placement in sockets post 3M surgery, and to evaluate the incidence of pain, need for pain medication, trismus, and absence from work or school.
