CAD for Digital Breast Tomosynthesis -- Early Versions Are on the Horizon


Background: Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) was designed to improve on digital mammography by decreasing the superimposition of fibroglandular elements that may obscure findings on traditional 2D mammography. The drawback, however, is that instead of 2 views of each breast as in 2D mammography, the DBT studies consist of 1-mm sections taken in CC and MLO projections for each breast that can result in up to 80 sections, depending on breast thickness.
